Cooking-
I would like to formally announce that my cooking has digressed since being here. Now, we all know my cooking wasn't all that good to begin with so to get worse means its basically inedible. However, in self-defense, I have the best excuse EVER.
My mother has always said, "If you can read, you can cook."
I can speak Chinese well, but my reading and writing pretty much sucks. HA! I can't read ingredients, recipes, instructions or anything beyond timing...so therefore I can't cook!
hahaha

I am actually thinking about hiring a Chinese cook after we come back in the spring. One of my friends pays hers 1000 RMB a month for full-time help, and the helper does most of the grocery shopping. She was spending more than twice that amount trying to cook for herself and her husband when it was just the two of them. Cooking western food here is a nightmare; I made black bean soup last week and spent 25 RMB just on the beans! We could have had 2 or three plates of jiao zi for that much money.
There's someone in Jing Shan moving back to the states who has a part-time Chinese cook (who can also make Indian food) who is looking for work. I'll send you the number when we get over there in case you might be interested. That's the only reason I am now considering a "helper." To save money, odd as that sounds.
