Hi. I found you by googling "Shekou" and "blog." I am still in between living here and the states, and I was hoping to find someone like me(read that another stay-at-home mom who doesn't have a nanny). But you talk about shoes, which is just as fun.
Have you already eaten at the Shandong Restaurant in Shekou? Most of their dishes are pretty simple, typical of Shandong cuisine, and not as oily as other places. They are very good about modifications; I don't eat meat so my Gan Bien Si Ji Do and Ma Pa Do Fu are pork-free. My three-year-old can't eat La Jiao. If you aren't already fluent in Chinese, it doesn't take long to pick up Bu Yao" Best of all I don't get my usual MSG reaction from eating there. And it is cheap.
There is also the Hallal restaurant, Turpan, in Shui Wan Tou. They have a bigger one down by LoWu, I guess, that has dancers even. It is Chinese Muslim food, and again, here I don't get a bad MSG reaction.
And next time you are in the expat stores (I am assuming you were at USA and Silver Palate)pick up a Best of Shenzhen book when you are in there (SP) if you already haven't. I was a little embarrassed to get one, and I joked about it (The Chinese-Expletive for White People Book, I call it) to my husband's friends, nearly all of whom have chinese girlfriends. They looked at it and were a little covetous. It is very useful
Here's a great Chinese name in the risque-sounding department. I don't know if I have the spelling right but it is Shwang Shwang. She owns a bar behind Tai Zi Road. Not one I have been in.
And most of the girls who change their name to Apple are really named (I think it is spelled) A Ping. It was a really popular name, like Jennifer or Ashley popular, 15-25 years ago. Not always, because I know an A Ping who goes by Mickey (and her cousin Ping Guo prefers Kiki). And two other A Ping's that continue to be A Ping.
I love the name Queenie!! Can you believe Brittnay finally filed for divorce...I wish she would kust come out and say she got a boob job!
I love you sister! My world is so much more fulfillinf knowing I have you to share it with
